The 7009 Returned End handrail fitting is designed to finish off a piece of handrail.  This gives the stair railing a rounded appearance at the ends.  This fitting is designed to be used with our 6010 handrail.  It is often found on railing going to a basement.  Some local codes require that any handrail be returned to a wall.  If this is the case in your area, consider using the 7011 level quarter turn to return your handrail to the wall.
