	Red Oak is the most popular choice of hardwoods for use in stair parts here in the U.S.  It is less expensive than most other hardwoods, it is durable, easy to work with and has beautiful graining.  Red oak is usually stained in a medium to dark stain to bring out the richness of its deep graining.  It is the most economical of the hardwoods to use, but also the most common.  The trend is to use Red Oak as an upgrade to painted or Poplar wood.  If you are building a custom home, you may want to consider using one of the other hardwoods to make your home stand out more from the crowd.  Don't get us wrong.  Red Oak is certainly a splendid choice, but not one you would consider if you are wanting something that sets you apart from the crowd.  That being said, Red Oak continues to be the best "value" in hardwood stair parts.
