	Beautiful Homes offers both soft and hard maple stair parts.  If you plan to clear coat your maple stair parts, we would suggest using hard maple.  It has the beauty and benefits of soft maple, but as its name states it is harder and more durable.  The only real drawback to using hard maple is that it can be challenging to stain.  If you plain on staining your handrail and you are not going to use a professional to stain it...you should consider soft maple.  Soft maple has a greater consistency of in its density along the surface of the wood.  This means it will take stain better than hard maple.  Soft maple is still not the easiest wood to stain, but it is easier than hard maple.  Please call us if you are considering using maple for your stair parts.  We are happy to help you.
